Please join us for ZLC’s professional development breakfast seminar. This year’s topic is Cross-Border Tax and Estate Planning. Leading the morning will be Farzin Remtulla, senior advisor at ZLC Financial.  Our keynote speaker, Ryan Gill from KPMG is one of our industry’s leading experts on guidelines, risks and tax implications affecting cross border estate plans.

Ryan will cover:

  • A review of US tax basics
  • US Estate Tax and related planning fundamentals
  • Life insurance in the cross-border context
  • US anti-deferral rules
  • US beneficiaries of Canadian trusts

We will close the morning with a Q&A session with our moderator and keynote speaker.

Partner, Private Client – Cross Border Tax, KPMG

Ryan is a partner in our Global Mobility Services (GMS) group, specializing in Private Client – Cross-Border Tax. With more than 14 years of experience, Ryan serves cross-border private clients with a focus on high net worth individuals and families, and family offices.

Ryan practices in the area of tax planning and compliance for individuals, estates and trusts in a Canadian and US cross-border context. He advises individuals on both sides of the border on tax matters related to their residence, compensation including equity compensation, investments including real estate, retirement plans, estates, trusts, gifts and expatriation. He has experience in cross-border reorganizations and post-mortem planning involving US citizens and residents. He is also involved in the preparation of Canadian and US tax returns for individuals, estates, and trusts.

Farzin Remtulla

Farzin brings to ZLC his wealth of knowledge in the areas of estate planning and business succession. This knowledge along with his years of tax planning experience, enable Farzin to understand the investment objectives and life insurance needs of clients and implement financial planning strategies in a tax efficient manner. As a Chartered Accountant, Farzin works closely and effectively with accountants, lawyers and other advisory team professionals to ensure the smooth implementation of all recommendations.

Prior to joining ZLC, Farzin had a successful career in public accounting where he specialized in personal, corporate and trust income tax matters. He most recently served as a Senior Tax Manager at a national accounting firm where he advised businesses and their owners on tailored strategies to reduce their overall tax burden and maximize wealth.
