ZLC Has Got You Covered | Client Questions

By John Lutrin, President of ZLC Financial

One unfortunate reality of life is that it often takes a tragedy, a loss, or a crisis to truly gain perspective on our priorities and what matters most. It is also these challenges that highlight our own vulnerability and mortality, and emphasize the importance of risk mitigation, financial protection, and the value of peace of mind in times where uncertainty prevails. At ZLC, we are in the business of “Peace-of-Mind”, and I would like to assure our valued clients that we are here to serve you. Our team is here to answer questions about your coverage, ensure that appropriate or additional coverage is put in place where required, and that information and advice is readily at hand for the questions and concerns you may have.

Whether ZLC has you covered for Life Insurance, Disability Insurance, Critical Illness, or whether you are an employee at a company that ZLC provides the Employee Benefits for, or whether you are an investment client with your retirement savings and other investments managed or administered by ZLC… we are here for you!

  • Q: Would my Life Insurance be valid under a COVID-19 death?
A: Yes! COVID-19 related illness will not impact your existing Life Insurance Policy coverage. Also, all new Life Insurance policies entered now will not exclude any COVID-19 related causes of death. As it stands today, you would be covered under a new policy, however, this could change in the future. Talk to your ZLC Advisor to learn more.
  • Q: Does my Critical Illness policy cover COVID-19?
A: Your CI policy covers a list of usually around 20 listed diseases or critical illnesses, and COVID-19 is not one of those, so ‘No’ is the short answer. However, if a claim is presented for a different covered critical illness (such as a major organ transplant, like a lung transplant) that is attributable to Coronavirus, then it will generally be viewed as a covered condition and insurance companies will consider such claims for approval.
  • Q: Would my Disability Income policy cover COVID-19?
A: The short answer is ‘Yes’. DI policies have a waiting period before the monthly income benefit commences, this waiting period can be between one and twenty-six weeks depending on your policy, or up to two years in the case of Long Term Disability (LTD). If loss of income occurs due to a COVID-19 illness and the waiting period is met, benefits will pay.

These are just some of the questions we are seeing on the policy coverage side, as well as receiving many inquiries for the implementation of new or additional coverage. We are fully equipped at ZLC to help you with answers, and can also assist you with new insurance clients remotely through the use of electronic documents and non-face-to-face business communication…completely online. Talk to your ZLC Advisor to learn more or contact us anytime.

While it is our duty and obligation to serve you, it is truly our pleasure and privilege. Our priority is your priority, as well as the safety and wellbeing of our team of dedicated Staff and Associates.

I wish you well in these difficult times and pray that good health, peace, and security carries us through to the other side of this challenge.
