John
McKeachie grew up in Victoria and attended the University
of Victoria.
Following
an eight year career in the sporting goods business
where he began as a part-time employee and progressed
to become a partner, John spent a year with the Phoenix
Roadrunners in the old WHL.
John
has had a distinguished career in broadcasting for over
35 years. Highlights include:
•
22 years in sports broadcasting with BCTV (currently
known as Global TV)
• Barcelona and Lillehammer Olympics
• Hockey Night in Canada
• Vancouver Canucks
• BC Lions
• Vancouver Whitecaps
Most
recently he was in sports-talk radio. John has been
involved in many charity functions and has been awarded
the Rotary Club’s highest honour, a Paul Harris
Fellow. For over 30 years, John has traveled around
BC and Canada assisting many groups in charitable fundraising
endeavours, including acting as an MC or auctioneer
or both.
Married
with three daughters, all UBC graduates, he is a member
of the Arbutus Club, Marine Drive Golf Club and plays
both old-timers hockey and basketball on a regular basis.
